The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It commemorates the famous poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River due to political injustice in 278 BC.

On this day, people engage in various activities to honor Qu Yuan and to ward off evil spirits. One of the most famous traditions is dragon boat racing. Teams of rowers paddle long, narrow boats with dragon-shaped heads and tails, racing down rivers. It is believed that this competition can prevent water dragons from causing harm.
Another important custom is eating zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. Zongzi come in various flavors, from sweet to savory, and are said to bring good luck and health.
People also hang mugwort and calamus around their homes to keep bugs away. Moreover, they wear a fragrant herb called "hua lian" to ward off illness and bad luck.
The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time to remember a great poet, but also a celebration of Chinese culture and tradition. It's a day filled with joy, laughter, and the spirit of unity.
