The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It has a long history, dating back to the Warring States period over 2,000 years ago. The festival commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a loyal minister who drowned himself in the Miluo River after being betrayed by his king.

On this day, people engage in various activities, such as dragon boat races, eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and hanging mugwort and calamus. Dragon boat races are particularly exciting, with teams paddling long boats shaped like dragons to the beat of drums. It is believed that the races were held to scare away the fish from Qu Yuan's body.
Zongzi, the iconic food of the festival, is made of glutinous rice stuffed with various fillings, such as red bean, lotus seed, or meat. It is wrapped in bamboo leaves and cooked in water until it is soft and chewy.
The Dragon Boat Festival is a time for families to gather, honor their ancestors, and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of China. It is a celebration of life, unity, and the spirit of resilience.
