The origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival can be traced back to the Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BC) in China. It is said that during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), the festival was dedicated to honoring the moon. According to folklore, Emperor Li Yu, who was fond of the moon, declared this day as the Moon Festival. Since then, it has become an important festival to celebrate family reunions and the beauty of the moon.

Another legend is associated with Chang'e, the goddess of the moon. It is said that she was the only person left on Earth after the other immortals left. Chang'e was lonely, so she became the moon goddess. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, people make mooncakes and admire the moon, in the hope that the moon will bring them happiness and longevity, just as Chang'e was said to have done. The mooncake is a key symbol of the festival and often contains lotus seed paste, red bean paste, or salted egg yolk.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family gatherings, the appreciation of the moon's beauty, and enjoying the festive atmosphere through mooncakes, tea, and lanterns. It is an important cultural tradition in many Asian countries.
