The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a loyal minister who drowned himself in the Miluo River after being betrayed by his ruler. To prevent fish from eating his body, locals paddled dragon boats and threw rice dumplings into the river. This festival also has associations with other legends and practices, such as hanging calamus leaves and mugwort to ward off evil spirits.
