Over time, the Dragon Boat Festival has evolved into a festival with various customs. People typically eat zongzi, which are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. These dumplings can be filled with different ingredients, such as red bean paste, meat, or fruit. Dragon boat races are also a significant part of the festival, with teams competing in long, narrow boats decorated like dragons. The races are believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
In addition to these customs, people often wear leeks or mugwort leaves, believing that these plants have protective properties. They also paint their faces with colored powders, which is another way to deter evil spirits.
The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time to remember the historical figure Qu Yuan but also a celebration of Chinese culture, tradition, and community spirit.
